According to Sanatan Dharma, Indian mythology and Maheshwari belief Mahesh-Parvati are not two different or separate deities/god-goddess, they are one and the same.

Maheshwara/Maheshwar (महेश्वर) and Mahesh (महेश) is the name of Lord Shiva's Sagun and Sakar form. Maheshwar and Mahesh mean the same. Mahesh is the short name of Maheshwar. Mahesh is made up of two words Maha and Ish (Ishwar), their meanings are respectively great and lord. The meaning of name Mahesh is supreme/highest power. Mahesh means God of Gods (Sanatan, Brahmandnayak, Maheshwar, Devadhidev or Mahadev). People of Maheshwari community worship Lord Shiva in the form of Sagun, Sakar and Household deity and in the name of Lord Mahesh (Lord Mahesha). Lord Mahesh is the first worshiper of Maheshwaris. According to the Maheshwari Vanshotpatti Katha/Story (origin story of Maheshwari community), the Maheshwari dynasty was born with the grace and blessings of Lord Mahesha (Lord Shiva) and Goddess Parvati (Goddess Maheshwari). Lord Mahesha and Goddess Parvati are the founders of Maheshwari community. And so, Lord Mahesha is the Supreme Being and First Adorable in Maheshwarism. Maheshwarism means Maheshwaritva. Lord Mahesha is the Supreme God and First Adorable (प्रथम आराध्य) of Maheshwaris and Maheshwari community. Maheshwaris believe that Lord Mahesha is All and in all, the creator, preserver, destroyer, revealer and concealer of all that is. He is not only the creator in Maheshwarism, but he is also the creation that results from him, he is everything and everywhere. Mahesha is the primal Self, the pure consciousness and Absolute Reality in the Maheshwaritva traditions.

महेश्वर (Maheshwara/Maheshwar) और महेश (Mahesh) भगवान शिव के सगुण और साकार रूप के नाम है। महेश्वर और महेश का मतलब एक ही है. महेश्वर का संक्षिप्त नाम "महेश" है। महेश दो शब्दों 'महा' और 'ईश (ईश्वर)' से मिलकर बना है, इनके अर्थ क्रमशः महान और भगवान हैं। महेश नाम का मतलब सर्वोच्च शक्ति होता है। महेश का अर्थ है देवों के देव (सनातन, ब्रह्माण्डनायक, महेश्वर, देवाधिदेव या महादेव)। माहेश्वरी समाज के लोग भगवान शिव को सगुण, साकार और गृहस्थ देवता के रूप में तथा भगवान महेश के नाम से पूजते हैं। भगवान महेश माहेश्वरीयों के प्रथम पूज्य है, प्रथम आराध्य है। माहेश्वरी वंशोत्पत्ति कथा (माहेश्वरी समाज की उत्पत्ति कथा) के अनुसार भगवान महेशजी और देवी पार्वती (देवी महेश्वरी) की कृपा और आशीर्वाद से ही माहेश्वरी वंश की उत्पत्ति हुई, माहेश्वरी वंश की शुरुवात हुई। भगवान महेशजी और देवी पार्वती ही माहेश्वरी समाज के संस्थापक है। इसलिए, भगवान महेश माहेश्वरीयों और माहेश्वरी समाज के सर्वोच्च देवता और प्रथम आराध्य हैं। माहेश्वरीयों का मानना ​​है कि भगवान महेश ही सर्वस्व हैं, सर्वव्यापी हैं, जो कुछ भी है उसके निर्माता, संरक्षक, विध्वंसक, प्रकटकर्ता और छुपाने वाले हैं। माहेश्वरीत्व/माहेश्वरीवाद में वे न केवल सृजक हैं, बल्कि उनसे उत्पन्न रचना भी हैं, वे ही सब कुछ और सर्वत्र हैं। माहेश्वरीत्व परंपराओं में महेश आदिम स्व, शुद्ध चेतना और पूर्ण वास्तविकता हैं।

He is the Supreme Lord (Supreme God) who creates, protects and transforms the universe. In the Sanatana tradition, the Supreme Goddess, Devi Maheshwari (Parvati/Adishakti) is regarded as the energy and creative power (Shakti) and the equal complementary partner of Lord Mahesha.

Lord Mahesha has many aspects, he is benevolent as well as destructive. In benevolent aspects, he is depicted as an omniscient yogi who lives an ascetic life on Mount Kailash and is also a householder with his wife Parvati and his two children, Ganesha and Kartikeya. In his fierce aspects, he is often depicted slaying demons. Lord Mahesha is also known as Adiyogi (the first Yogi), Adiguru (the first Guru/Teacher), regarded as the patron god of yoga, meditation, knowledge and arts.

Lord Mahesha (Shiva) is one of the five equivalent deities in Panchayatana puja of the Smarta tradition of Sanatana (Hinduism). The Smarta tradition (Panchayatan puja) is notable for the worship of the five deities "Ganesha, Mahesha (Shiva), Shakti (Parvati/Durga), Vishnu and Surya" in the home puja ghar. In this, all these five deities are considered equal and in the worship room of the house, all the five deities are worshiped daily by keeping their first worshiped deity in the middle. Panchayatan puja is also given priority in Maheshwari community and Maheshwari tradition.

भगवान महेश (शिव) सनातन (हिंदू धर्म) की स्मार्त परंपरा की पंचायतन पूजा में पांच समकक्ष देवताओं में से एक हैं। पंचायतन पूजा परंपरा घरेलु पूजा घर में पांच देवताओं "गणेश, महेश (शिव), शक्ति (पार्वती/दुर्गा), विष्णु और सूर्य" की पूजा के लिए उल्लेखनीय है। इसमें इन सभी पांचों देवताओं को समान माना जाता है और घर के पूजाघर में अपने अपने प्रथम आराध्य देवता को मध्य में रखकर पांचों देवताओं दैनिक/नित्य पूजा की जाती है। माहेश्वरी समाज और माहेश्वरी परंपरा में भी पंचायतन पूजा को प्राथमिकता दी जाती है।
